The Cardinals have declined backup catcher Gary Bennett’s $900,000 option today. Bennett recieved a $50,000 buyout.
A possible replacement for Bennett could be Paul Bako or Yorvit Torrealba, but Torrealba is rumored to be seeking a starting catcher position.
Cardinals radio broadcaster and former player Mike Shannon has been nominated for the Ford C. Frink award. This award is given out annually to individuals for “major contributions to the game of baseball“. Shannon has already been recognized for 50 years of service to the St. Louis Cardinals.
