RUMOR: Edmonds to the Padres
I have NO CONFIRMED SOURCE FOR THIS, so take it for what it’s worth, but a freind of mine whom is very close to Jim Edmonds says he is being dealt to the Padres for a minor leaguer…I REPEAT THIS IS A RUMOR…But stay tuned as I continue to dig up a source for this….
This is borderline irresponsible journalism, but that is what I’m being told at this hour…

Who knows what’s happening with Rolen at this point…it’s evident that the Cards aren’t going to move Rolen for the sake of getting him and Tony out of the sandbox (regardless of how much salary they could/would eat, which won’t be much). They are not going to pay him to play elsewhere without getting something in return.
Whom are the Cardinals seeking? If the Dodgers send Broxton to Baltimore in the Bedard deal, would they seek a bullpen arm and Rolen for something of any value to STL? I doubt Rolen himself could get any talent in return.

Finally something to blog about regarding the Cardinals. The likelihood of Cardinals disgruntled third basemen Scott Rolen being traded is become more of a reality with every passing moment of the GM Winter Meetings…
Here’s a rundown of the Scott Rolen Rumors…
- San Fransisco and Milwaukee seem to be the front runners for Rolen, with Pedro Feliz and Chris Capuano’s name being brought up the most. Feliz, a free agent this off-season, shares the same agent as Rolen, making him a candidate to replace him. I don’t get it. ~ MLB TRADE RUMORS
- Milwaukee seems to have the most involvement with the Rolen trade talks, rumored to be discussing a deal that would send Rolen to Milwaukee for Capuano. This would allow Milwaukee to move the defensive breakdown, Ryan Braun to the outfield. Bill Halls’ name has also been mentioned. The Cardinals would have to eat some salary, depending on the type of player they would be getting back in return. ~ Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Recent Rumors About Scott Rolen:
The Cardinals are willing to trade him, but his history of injuries diminishes his value. He has 3 years, $36M remaining on his contract. The Twins are interested and could move Scott Baker. The Cardinals would probably rather have Kevin Slowey. Twins decline interest. The Brewers are mildly interested and could offer Kevin Mench and Chris Capuano. If the Cardinals offered to pick up some Rolen’s salary, the Brewers would move Tony Gwynn Jr or Bill Hall. In general, the Brewers remain discourage by Rolen’s medical reports. The Giants are also interested.

- Earlier today, the Dallas Morning News reported that there were discussions involving a deal to send Rolen and Chris Duncan to Texas for Hank Blalock. These rumors were short lived and shot down.
